Readmission

Apply for readmission

This reapplication process is for undergraduate students who were previously enrolled either in the College of Arts and Sciences or the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the University of Rochester who want to resume study at the University after a formal withdrawal (either voluntary or involuntary), including former students who have exhausted their Leave of Absence (LOA) status from the University. To be considered for readmission, the student must show readiness to resume a academic program from which they can benefit.

I’ve withdrawn from the University of Rochester.

You will need to complete a Readmission Request. Students should start the process of readmission well in advance of the deadlines to allow for sufficient time for their request to be reviewed and take care of any needed items prior to the start of the return term.

Tips for a successful return request

Have you met all conditions required by your separation?
  • Students who were experiencing health related issues at the time of their departure, are encouraged to consult with University Health Services (UHS) or with the University Counseling Center (UCC) for any medical clearance and arrangements for continued medical treatment, if needed.
  • An early return request based upon separation criteria will be unlikely to be approved unless there is sufficient reasoning to support the request.
  • If your separation required further approval to return, contact the appropriate office like the Center of Student Conflict Management or Office of the Dean of Students.
Do you have an outstanding balance?
  • Outstanding balance owed to Rochester must be cleared up before a return will be approved. Contact the Office of the Bursar to address any outstanding financial holds on the account.
Do you have an articulated academic plan?
  • Having a clear academic plan for your returning semester is helpful for us to understand what you want to pursue upon return. Consulting with an advisor prior to submitting a readmission request can help you understand what you have left to complete, and they can help you develop a academic plan. You can reach out to an advisor you were working with prior to leaving or contact the College Center for Advising Services to set up an appointment.
  • Readmitted students whose initial enrollment preceded the Rochester Curriculum requirements are expect to meet those requirements using the same criteria as transfer students.
