Q&A: The Interfaith Chapel

What is the Interfaith Chapel?

Located near the Genesee River, the Interfaith Chapel offers a number of services and events. It represents diversity on our campus, in that students may choose to participate in various activities and services throughout the week and weekend. There are a number of student-run groups as well as support from University of Rochester staff. Students can participate in engaging opportunities both on and off campus through the Interfaith Chapel. In my opinion, it is a great representation of how collaborative our students, faculty, staff, and Rochester community are on the University of Rochester campus.

What services and activities are offered?

Hillel Shabbat services, Chabad Shabbat services, Protestant Chapel Community, UR Christian Fellowship, Newman Community Catholic masses, and Muslim Students’ Association Jumma prayers. Also, throughout the week, the various organizations sponsor movie nights, free pasta dinner nights, lectures, and volunteer opportunities.

What if they don’t offer the service I want?

If the Interfaith Chapel does not offer the service you are looking for, they will work with you to find somewhere in the Rochester community to practice.

Do I have to have a religious affiliation to attend these events?

NO! Part of the diverse environment at the University of Rochester includes the ability to try new things. Anyone is welcome to learn more about the services and activities at the Interfaith Chapel. However, the University of Rochester has no one religious affiliation.
