WRUR: The Sting

Here at the University of Rochester, there are a million things to do, and I imagine that in my time here I won't even participate in an eighth of the opportunities available. I wanted to write a blog post about it to give a shout out to my friend, Sam Silber, for inviting me to be a guest on his radio show. My friend Sam is a DJ at WRUR, UR's radio station, and he has a show every Tuesday from 9 pm – 10 pm on The Sting, which is the internet radio station. During the 1-hour slot he can play any music he wants; it's even less limited because the FCC doesn't regulate the internet radio stations.

Since he had me co-hosting with him, we turned it into a competition to engage our listeners. We played 15 songs and our listeners were invited to send us a list, stating who played which song, and whoever had the most correct list won a prize (most likely Zonies, which is a favorite midnight snack for Rochester students). We would play 3 songs in a row and afterward recap which band, what album, and the year it was released. We also made brief comments about the content and the political happenings (this was on Election Day!).

I had an amazing time and I highly recommend getting involved with WRUR if you're passionate about music. I've also done some reviews of CDs for them, where you essentially are given CDs to listen to and rate. It's definitely a cool organization to be a part of and I look forward to possibly being a guest star on Sam's show again! For those who are curious, here's the list of songs we played:

"Lion in Coma" by Animal Collective (Sam)
"Baby, I'm An Anarchist" by Against Me! (Grant)

"Novacain Stain" by Modest Mouse (Grant)
