I know that the University of Rochester has this flexible curriculum that it is known for; nevertheless, there is one required course that each student has to take, and it differs according to the level each student is at. It is the WRITING COURSE. I didn't know that writing can be such a hard thing! Ironic, yeah! Well, I kind of knew that when I applied to one of the best private universities in America. Also, I know that writing is hard, but I guess I was trying to block it out of my mind for a while. I didn't get into the class last semester, so I had to wait an entire semester to get into one of the classes. I am not complaining because it is a hard class; I am complaining because I think I cannot write!
It is kind of weird to me! When I want to write something that has nothing to do with school, I tend to write it very fast and I like it most of the times, BUT when it comes to the WRT teacher asking us to write a decent thesis statement, the following will happen: my head starts to ache, my hands become sweaty, the words start to fly away, and I think, "Well, I have to learn English first!" I think the point of the writing program is to get all of us to the same level, to be more comfortable sharing our thoughts with others, and to create a more communicable community. At least that's what I think.
To tell you the truth, now I am blogging and I have writing homework, so I better get going, or it won't be that nice tomorrow afternoon, when I will be asked to turn in my paper. 🙂
Peace,
Sarah AK
