Who Ya Gonna Call? Financial Aid!

With acceptance letters going out, I’m sure many of you will have questions regarding your financial aid. So, who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters! Oh wait, wrong decade. If you are living in 2013, call our front desk at (585) 275-3226. Most likely the person that answers your call will be our Guest Relations Coordinator, Carrie Welch. Here is a picture of Carrie so you can put a face with the name!

If it’s not Carrie, it may be one of our highly trained student workers. Either way, when you call our phone number, the person on the other end of the line is going to have all the answers you need (or at the very least, get you to the person who can help you). Since the first line of contact is Carrie Welch, let’s take a moment to meet her, shall we?

Carrie has been the guest relations coordinator for the University of Rochester since July of 2012. Not only is Carrie the first contact you may have with the University of Rochester Financial Aid Office, she is also very active on social media. She runs our Twitter account and is an active participant on the University of Rochester: Class of 2017 Facebook page. If you ever have any questions regarding UR Financial Aid and you are in class or somewhere and you cannot give our office a call, you can always tweet us @urfinaid. I would like to challenge all Class of 2017 prospectives to get #urfinaid trending! Let your followers know how excited you are about Rochester by using the hashtag #urfinaid. After reading this blog (wait until you have read it all the way through because leaving in the middle of my blog is just not nice), go follow us!

If you’re thinking, “But Hali, I don’t have Twitter,” to that I would telepathically respond with: Open up another tab—even though you are in the middle of reading my blog (I’ll allow an exception just this once)— and sign up for a Twitter account and start following us (and the other awesome UR Twitter account, @URAdmissions).  You could even post your first tweet with #urfinaid. Once you have followed these two accounts, come on back to this blog. You can start following other accounts later!

If you are an active participant on the University of Rochester: Class of 2017 Facebook page, you probably already know how to ask a question about financial aid. For those of you who are new or are still unsure how to ask Carrie about a general financial aid question, you can just post on the Facebook page and tag her in it. She will automatically receive a notification that you have a question, and she will be able to answer the question by the end of the day. Sometimes, she may still direct you to call our office, usually because she knows you would be best served by talking to your financial aid counselor. If I were a betting woman (which I am), I would say she is trying to get you the best customer service that you deserve.

Now I’m sure you’re thinking, “Great blog, Hali. There was so much great information. What do I do now?” My advice: Log onto Twitter or Facebook and post your enthusiasm about how you can talk to your future college through social media. Enjoy the rest of your February!
