Hey there!
My name is Elizana and believe it or not, I am a fortune teller … well, kind of, anyway. My predictions may not be “scientifically proven” but I assure you, chances are, UR going to love it here (see what I did there? 😉 ). I know because that’s what happened to me and the 6,000 other undergraduates here. Now I know some of you may doubt that you could ever be “in love” at your age, let alone fall in love with a college or university. But I’ve watched enough chick flicks to know that sometimes love grows over time and sometimes it happens when you least expect it. Either way, no matter how it happens, that awesome feeling makes your life so ever better that you can’t help but pass it on. I mean, honestly, why else do you think the blue and yellow heart emojis are right next to each other? Because U of R = love, duh.
That’s why I’m so excited to serve as your handy dandy student blogger! Each time I write a new blog post, imagine me skipping around the room singing “The Genesee” at the top of my lungs …
… and throwing magical Meliora glitter into the air as if I were your personal UR spirit fairy.
Because FYI—that’s how epic it is to be a Yellowjacket. I mean, I have a cape, guys. What more proof do you need?
As a student blogger, I am here to serve as the eyes and ears for you on campus, giving you and your family exclusive inside information, tips and tricks about the University, campus life, and the incredible students at Rochester. With a range of topics including everything from academic opportunities, advice on doing your laundry for the first time, and trying to decide which of the 200+ clubs to join first, this blog is meant to give you a glimpse into an authentic University of Rochester experience.
I’m super excited I get the chance to know you and I can’t wait to let you in on some of Rochester’s hidden treasures. But first…
Here’s a little bit about me!
- Originally from Binghamton, New York, I am a proud member of the University of Rochester Class of 2017. I am majoring in health, behavior, and society (an area of public health) and language, media, and communication (an English concentration).
- In high school, I was an International Baccalaureate student, a member of the National Honor Society, and part of several other extracurricular activities, including competitive swimming, cheerleading, and a variety of performing arts.
- True to my “busy bee” nature, here at the U of R I continue to be a very involved student both in and outside the classroom. Taking voice lessons at the Eastman School of Music, being a Speaking Fellow, an Early Connection Opportunity Program participant/mentor, a David T. Kearns Scholar, and a Ronald E. McNair Scholar have given me a great deal of academic opportunities, including the ability to participate in research as an undergraduate student.
- In my spare time, I remain an active member of numerous groups including Off Broadway On Campus (OBOC) (the university’s only musical theater group), College Feminists, the Student Alumni Ambassadors, and the Society of Undergraduate Public Health Students. Currently, I also serve as the vice president of the Student Organization for Caribbean Awareness (SOCA). (Fun fact: I am Haitian-American.)
All in all, I am a fun-loving person who enjoys reading, listening to music, going on adventures, and spending time with my friends. I absolutely love being a Yellowjacket and I can’t wait to share some of my experiences, mishaps, adventures, and shenanigans with you.
So until next time, stay awesome!
