The University of Rochester is thrilled to be one of two global hosts for the 2015 International Baccalaureate World Student Conference (IBWSC), held on campus August 2–8. And in a world of confounding complexity, tough-to-swallow headlines, and intractable disputes, we are equally as happy to present the conference theme, “Game Changers: Reaching Solutions Through the Instinct to Play.”
We look forward to giving students the space to consider play as a means to confront challenging global issues, as play is our most readily-available tool for discovery of the world around us, and a source of boundless inspiration. From art and music, to politics and international relations, engineering and public health, play intersects with whichever of our competencies we choose to employ to create stronger, healthier societies.
This conference will feature a plenary speaker who will present on a different facet of our theme each day, followed by group (known as “Global Action Teams”) discussions led by IB educators, and will culminate in the creation of a Global Action Plan leading to a CAS project that students can employ in their own communities. Of course, we also build in lots of time for fun, social time, and excursions to local attractions!
The University of Rochester, a proud supporter of the IB program and international education, is a world leader in finding creative solutions to global problems through research across all academic disciplines. Come spend a week on our beautiful campus this summer and return home with new tools to impact social change and “put play to work!”
