Upperclassman Housing

Housing is incredible at the University of Rochester, with great campus diversity. When you are a freshman, you get a double (two beds) or triple (three beds) typically, referring to the number of roommates you have. You share the bathroom with the rest of the individuals on your hall, and you also all share a lounge on your floor.

The rooms, in my opinion, are pretty big with ample furniture in each room. BUT, the best part is that at Rochester, you can for the most part live on campus all four years, which was really important to me. I wanted to live close to campus life and classes, which is exactly what I do currently as a junior.

I live in Wilder Tower, one of three residential life buildings in the new Jackson Court. I like my living situation now because I live in a suite with five of my other very close friends. We all picked to live together, and we also picked exactly which suite we wanted and in which building. We have four singles and one double in the suite, as well as our own bathroom, closet, and suite living room. It really makes for a comfortable atmosphere where I live with my friends, but I still have my room just as I wanted.

There are other housing options for upperclassmen as well, which include the residential life buildings at Southside, where you have a similar suite-style living situation. Southside’s two buildings are known for their large kitchens and are a hit for students who like to cook their own meals. We also have Riverview, which typically houses mostly seniors. These apartment-style buildings are made up of four single rooms, each with its own bathroom, and a shared kitchen and living room.

All in all, University housing at Rochester is pretty nice. It is extremely comfortable, and compared to what I saw at other colleges while applying, it is certainly one of the best!
