The Incident of Walking UNDER THE CLOCK!

My brother Mustafa visited me over the weekend; he came with his friend D to see me. We went to see a movie, and when we came back, I took him for a tour, starting from Gilbert, my dorm. The first thing I told him when we walked by our famous University of Rochester clock was, "There is a myth that anyone who walks under this clock will not graduate on time." He was nodding his head, but the minute I turned my head toward Wilson Commons, he WENT UNDER THE CLOCK. I was thinking, have you heard anything of what I said?! After the incident, though, he explained his interesting reason for doing such a foolish thing: He said, "I am not a student here, so hopefully by going under this clock, I can transfer here and get accepted—and then not graduate on time." That's why I then told him to go under it a couple more times. It is really tempting; I always pass by it and think that I really want to go under it, but I cannot.  

It was interesting to see the reactions of people from outside about how great the U of R is. I think by the end of this visit, I appreciated the University of Rochester more. It is not that I didn't appreciate it before that, but you always see more when someone else points out things that you take for granted.
