Well, the time is here for spring registration! It is crazy to even think that the weeks of our first semester are dwindling down. Winter really is right around the corner. . . . College is going by too fast! High school went by so much slower—for me, anyway.
Everyone who needed to has met with their advisors and figured out what classes to sign up for. Not everyone knows their major yet, so it is interesting to me to see how some of my friends are taking advantage of the flexible curriculum and coming up with the seemingly most random sets of courses possible. They are exploring, and I think that is so cool. I know I want to do pre-med and music, so my options are quite limited—especially since I have to overload every semester to fit everything in. . . . But it will all be worth it as I go along, and at the end! It is what I love to do.
The thing I love about course registration here at the University of Rochester is that we as students get to do it all by ourselves. We get to pick what classes we want, sitting in our dorms with our laptops when the registrar opens, and even better, we get to pick the times of these courses. If you want all morning classes, feel free to do so. Maybe you want to sleep in until 12pm every day (like me), so go ahead and do that instead. You can even plan out your schedule well enough to have breaks, times for meals, and—my favorite—naps! There are some limitations, though, like some classes are only offered at a certain time or day of the week (like my Bio which is at 9 in the morning . . .), but for the most part, each class has multiple slots, and you can pick which ones best fit in your schedule.
The University of Rochester provides us with so much regarding our freedoms and the choices we have, and registering for classes is no exception. I know some of my friends at other colleges who did not get to choose everything they wanted, so I consider myself very fortunate to be a student here and to be offered these opportunities. This first semester is going by fast, but registration can't help but make you excited for the next semester as well!
