Rochester to Host IB Coordinators on Campus

At Rochester, we're continuing our efforts to appeal to the IB community and to communicate what a good match we think we are for students who complete the IB Diploma Program. We're continuing to learn how best to work with students, parents, guidance counselors, teachers, and IB coordinators to understand as much as we can about the nature of the program and how it translates to success in college. Here are a few IB things we're up to in the coming months:

Secondary School Issues Conference for IB Coordinators

In early June, the University of Rochester will host a professional development opportunity for IB coordinators to meet and discuss issues of higher education as it pertains to the IB program. We are very excited that Marie Vivas, University Relations Manager at the IBO, will be in attendance as well.

We understand that crafting a policy that benefits students in this unique program requires a deep understanding of the program and the ways it serves its global community—from international schools in Switzerland, to urban schools in Chicago. We hope that this conversation will add texture to our perception of the way IB and higher ed can work together for the benefit of our students.

If you are an IB coordinator interested in attending, please contact Suzanne Dianetti at sdianetti@admissions.rochester.edu or (585) 276-5814. Space is limited!

Pre-College Programs at Rochester: IB Extended Essay Workshop

Every summer, we host hundreds of students on campus from high schools across the country to engage them in learning and fun. One of the opportunities students can sign up for is a workshop to get started on their IB extended essay.

In the IB Extended Essay Workshop, students will explore the criteria for the IB extended essay assignment. Students will develop a focused research question that meets the requirements of IB, a collection of relevant, scholarly articles, and a working, structured argument. The research and writing of the extended essay is approximately a 40-hour process; this workshop is the exploratory stage of that process. Pre-College students are encouraged to choose a second afternoon class to complement their full-day academic experience.
