NaStuEmpWe 2014

NaStuEmpWe 2014

Well, we have wrapped up another highly successful National Student Employment Week (known on Twitter as #NaStuEmpWe), and I wanted to highlight some of the neat stuff we had going!

On Campus

First things first, we have a very talented and generally awesome winner of Student Employee of the Year! Her name is Emi Hitomi, and she is a wonderful and hardworking Student Supervisor in Student Activities at Wilson Commons. I had a chance to speak with Emi about what it means to her to be a student employee, and she told me that it’s really helped her to feel like part of the campus and has helped her to get involved and grow into a more outgoing person.

Her supervisor couldn’t have had more glowing, positive things to say about Emi! Michael Dedes, the Wilson Commons Services Coordinator, wrote of Emi that she “is one of those rare individuals who truly cares about everyone she comes in contact with. There is no smoke or mirrors with Emi; she is as true as they come. She supports all her staff members, even those that can be difficult to deal with, and ensures that everyone has all the resources to be successful.” Wow! Who wouldn’t want an employee like Emi?

Here’s Emi, the proud winner, with President Joel Seligman

It’s not all about Emi, though! 17 students were nominated for Student Employee of the Year, and the Financial Aid Office hosted a luncheon last week in their honor. During the ceremony, attendees had the chance to learn all about other departments on campus, the work they are doing, and their outstanding student workers. In the spirit of Meliora, these amazing students are always doing their best to go above and beyond in the workplace!

In Our Office

Now in our office, we love to have fun with our student workers! We organized a whole bunch of different activities for them, and enjoyed getting to spend a little more time than usual with our student employees this week! For example, our office hosted a pizza party for our student employees this week. We also sent letters to the parents of all our student workers to tell them how much we appreciate the hard work their kids do! In addition, we coordinated an awesome photo scavenger hunt! We sent our student workers all over campus following a series of clues, some easy and some obscure. We’ve gotten great pics along the way! Check them out:

On Twitter

This year was the first time we’ve tried to get #NaStuEmpWe trending, and other colleges are catching on! Check out these other schools across the nation that are celebrating National Student Employment Week!

The University of Maryland, Baltimore celebrates with cake!

The University of Colorado, Colorado Springs contemplates how to thank their many student workers!

The Communications department at Rochester has cake for their students,
complete with a buzzing Yellow Jacket!

All in all, we had a great NaStuEmpWe 2014, on campus, in our office, and even on Twitter! We’re looking forward to next year already. But for now, THANK YOU to all student workers, everywhere, for the hard work they put in on the job. Meliora!
