Yesterday was Monday, and while my little brother is on vacation, I’m headed into another week of classes. (He’s being very nice and not gloating about it at all.) It’s also around the time for the first flurry of exams, and last week was particularly odious for me (two exams, two labs due, and a paper, on top of the normal homework load). However, there can be a bright spot to a Monday of a busy exam week, and that bright spot is Monday Suck.
Monday Suck is an event put on by Campus Activities Board to “relieve the Monday blues.” Traditionally, it involves some type of food item and a craft. This past Monday Suck, there were delicious cupcakes from a local cupcake place called From Scratch Cakery. Flavors included chocolate peanut butter, s’mores, vanilla squared, and I’ll stop now so you won’t feel hungry anymore. Instead, I’ll allow you to feast your eyes on them.
Of course, there’s more than just free food at Monday Suck; there is also a fun activity. This time, the craft was painting various wooden objects, including words, hearts, stars, birdhouses, flowers, wands, and horses. The point is to have something relaxing for students to do, instead of worrying about their upcoming exam. And many people get very creative with their painting, letting out some of the stress of the week. I, for example, painted this masterpiece . . .
. . . and had a lot of fun doing so. Many of the other students I saw there were also happy with their artwork. In fact, two of my friends currently have their words hanging up in their room. However, you can rest assured that all the cupcakes are long gone.
Campus Activities Board is planning to hold this event twice more during this semester (if you check my bio, you’ll see I’m a member of CAB), so that even Mondays, the bane of many people’s weeks, are ever better.
