Making High School Meaningful: Part One
All four years of high school are important.
You may have heard the widespread rumor that your junior year is your most important year. In reality, admissions officers scour your high school transcript, 9th grade through 12th grade. We look at your courses, the level of difficulty, and your grades in an attempt to understand how you have dedicated yourself to your academic program of study. Have you gone above and beyond the call of duty with regards to your course selection, particularly beyond your junior year? Are you in French 5? Are you taking a course in math beyond pre-calculus or trigonometry? Are you in a course at a local community college because you’ve immersed yourself in a topic you’re enthusiastic about? What do your electives say about your interests? Some of you may think that during your senior year you no longer need to take math, science, or a foreign language. But taking additional courses in these areas helps admissions officers see the ways in which you have continued to challenge yourself. We want you to consider every year of high school to be the most important.
