Is Study Abroad Right for You?

Because of our open curriculum, many students at Rochester have the time and ability to study abroad. There are programs across the world that are geared toward specific majors and minors as well as internship opportunities. Students may choose to study abroad for one semester (fall or spring), a full school year, or during the summer. The Center for Study Abroad sponsors numerous information sessions and workshops for students who are thinking about studying abroad.

For me, studying abroad in the summer was the right choice for me. I knew I wanted to experience education in another country, but I did not want to be away for a full semester because of all the things I love about Rochester. Studying for a month in Salamanca, Spain in 2011 was one of the best decisions I made as a college student. I lived in a homestay with a family who only spoke Spanish so I became very proficient in the language. I was able to travel to other locations such as the beaches of Portugal and Palma de Mallorca with friends I met in the program. I went to a bull fight, adventured to a nearby castle, and tutored a local family of three children in English. I got to experience Salamanca as someone who lived there would. I ran along the river, read in the parks and hung out at the cafes near the University of Salamanca.

Find the experience that is right for you! The Center for Study Abroad and its advisors will help you, so that you too can have an experience of a lifetime.
