Introducing Your 2011 Orientation Leaders

Class of 2015: With Orientation less than two weeks away, we thought it might be fun to give you an early introduction to some of the wonderful people you’ll meet when you get here. These students have been working hard this summer to make sure you’ll have everything you need to get settled and to have a great time.

Annalise Baird, Class of 2013
Major: Language, media, and communication
Minor: Psychology
Cluster: Brain and cognitive sciences
Activities: 24-Hour Play Festival, One-Act Play Festival, public relations for Todd Theatre, public relations chair for The Opposite of People (TOOP, a student theatre company), panhellenic delegate for Chi Omega, former Freshman Fellow

“I am absolutely thrilled to be working as a part of the Orientation staff this summer. We have so many awesome ideas, and I cannot wait for us to put them into action. I think the thing I am probably most excited about is move-in day. There are so many freshmen and transfer students who are just as excited to come to this school as we are to have them. Everything will become a reality on move-in day, when the entire Orientation team is there to welcome the newest members of the Rochester community. I feel honored to be able not only to be a part of that team but to be an integral part of the planning process as well. We’ve been hard at work this summer making sure that the Class of 2015 has an amazing first week at school. So far, this experience has been exceeding all expectations, so I cannot wait to see what’s in store for the weeks ahead!”

Kevin Brown, Class of 2014
Major:
Chemical engineering
Minor: Alternative energy systems
Cluster: Psychology
Activities: Tutor for Upward Bound, Engineering Ambassador, Engineer’s Week, FratBoys & Poets (a bi-monthly Open Mic Night on campus), Black Students Union (Member of the Year)

“I can’t wait to welcome the Class of 2015. As a freshman of the past year, I understand the anxieties that come along with going to college and adjusting to a new environment. However, I am also aware of how great this University is, and how quickly it becomes a place you call home. We are planning tons of fun activities to help you get integrated with the campus and your fellow classmates. I know that each of you has different expectations for your college experience, but I know there is a place for each of you on this campus, and I can’t wait to help you find it!”

Andrea Sobolewski, Class of 2011/Take 5 2012
Major:
Art history
Take 5 subject: Development of African political economy
Activities: Students’ Association Government (past: 2011 Class Council, senator for the Class of 2011, Policy & Review Committee chair; present: student alumni ambassador, senator-at-large), Warner School employee

“As a Take 5 student, I have continually sought ways to stay involved at the University of Rochester. I will be working closely to oversee the programs for Parent Orientation, but I am also excited to pass down my love of the campus and University to the Class of 2015. Some of the events that I am particularly looking forward to include Uncommon Night, Party on the Quad, and the College Celebration. As many of these events were such a memorable aspect of my own Orientation, it is an honor to be able to create programs that will be as equally memorable for the Class of 2015.”

Laura Vidler, Class of 2012
Majors:
Psychology and Spanish
Cluster: Brain and cognitive sciences
Activities: Campus Activities Board, Gospel Choir, Common Market employee, working with children in the Rochester community

“Having been an Orientation volunteer for the past two years, I’m very excited to have a bigger role on the team this time around. I think that Orientation at this school is really something special. In my experience, it’s one of the only places where you can find a group of people that are all so genuinely excited about the same goal. Everyone remembers their own Orientation because it’s the first thing they do here. I love knowing that through the work I’m doing, I have a direct impact on these memories for the Class of 2015.”

The entire University community looks forward to welcoming you to campus next week! Enjoy the rest of your summer!
