How to Make a Shirley Temple

It was my friend’s birthday last week so we decided to go to the Distillery to celebrate.  If it’s your birthday, you get free dessert! Plus, you can use flex there.

I’m not a big fan of sugary drinks with my meals, but when I’m at the Distillery, I always order their Shirley Temple. It’s the best Shirley Temple I’ve tasted so far, so make sure you try it!

The non-alcoholic cocktail was named after the legendary actress, Shirley Temple. There are different claims of how the drink started, but basically, the actress was too young to drink alcoholic beverages at Hollywood parties, so a bartender invented this drink for her.

There are many variations of the cocktail and I’m not sure which one the Distillery uses ( I’ll ask next time).

However, I’ll tell you my own version which I learned at bartending class.

1. Fill a highball with ice cubes.

2. Add 3 ounces of lime juice.

3. Add 3 ounces of Ginger Ale.

4. Add a dash of grenadine. (Don’t put too much! Or else you will get a sugar crash later.)

5. Add a maraschino cherry or two (Optional: slice of orange)

Note:

– You can replace lime juice with orange juice.

Also, many people like to use 7-Up, Sprite, or Seltzer instead of Ginger Ale.

– If you add alcohol, the drink become a Shirley Temple Black.

Stir and Enjoy!
