Get Ready for Mel Weekend!

October is a very special month here at Rochester, with some of the most exciting events of the year happening on the weekends. As a follow up on my previous post, you should look forward to these events as a well-deserved break from all the midterm studying! In this post, I’ll highlight my favorite event of the month, and I''ll give some insights on why you should get involved or participate in this event!

As perhaps one of the biggest events in the history of the University, Mel Weekend happens every year in the first weeks of October. This monumental event celebrates alumni class reunions, parents' weekend, and it is the ultimate celebration of Rochester pride!

REGISTRATION ENDS TODAY, OCTOBER 7, AT 12:00 P.M. Register now!

I encourage you to participate in some way or another, either volunteering or registering to attend events. Among the most prominent events in Mel Weekend are:

  • Networking Nights with Alumni: These events are perfect for any class year, as it is an opportunity either to practice your networking and people skills, or a chance to land an internship or even a full-time job. You can do it, seniors! 😉
  • Famous Keynote Speakers: From Nobel Laureates and leading political figures, to famous journalists and even comedians, featured speakers at Meliora Weekend give fascinating talks about a wide range of topics. Some past speakers include Bill Clinton, Anderson Cooper, and Steven Colbert. Want to find out who’s coming this year? Go to the official Mel Weekend schedule of events below to find out!
  • Opportunities to meet important leaders in the University, including the President, members of the Board of Trustees, Deans of the College, etc. Also, there are going to be crowds of alumni, people who were once in your place, and they usually have amazing stories to share! I encourage you to roam around campus and talk to Mel Weekend visitors; you never know who you might meet or what you might discover about the University!
  • All-day athletic events to display your Rochester gear and show some school spirit!

If you are interested in volunteering, check out the student volunteer page. It is a great chance to work with the Office of Alumni Relations and to get a free Mel Weekend Staff T-shirt!

I did it last year and I had an awesome time. I met alumni from classes going back to the 1960s, and their stories about their times at Rochester were amazing. Take a leap of faith, and sign up for a shift! Who knows, the people you might meet could change your life. 🙂
