Financial Aid Office Sneak Peek

by Jason Buitrago

Greetings incoming fall 2012 students!

As you all enjoy your last summer before officially becoming UR students, we’ve been über busy in the Financial Aid Office getting ready for you all! It really is such a great time of year setting the stage for your first semester!

Here is just a sneak peak as to what to expect in the next six weeks:

  • The first Bursar’s Fall 2012 for undergraduates will be made available for you to view by July 20th. Make sure to continue checking your e-mail! Don’t forget to set your parents up as “authorized payers” so that they can also receive subsequent notifications.
  • Once the family has reviewed the bill, and if your parents are looking for financing options, make sure to have them check out the Parent PLUS loan! It’s easy, quick and the most popular method to finance their student’s education. If you have any questions about this, contact your financial aid counselor.
  • Speaking of e-mails, don’t forget to activate and access your UR email address by going to the IT website!
  • Every month, the Financial Aid Office sends out e-mails reminding students of documents that need to be submitted. The e-mails are rolled out in a timely fashion, so if you get one of these e-mails, make sure to take action!
  • Towards the end of July, students awarded Federal Direct Loans (Subsidized and/or Unsubsidized) will receive an e-mail notification from your financial aid counselor prompting you to complete the Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Notes for these specific types of Federal loans. If you received Perkins, or University Loans, you will receive an e-mail prompting you to complete the loan requirements for those loans during Orientation Week! It’s important that student borrowers complete these requirements!

Speaking of Orientation Week, boy does our office have some exciting events planned out for you!

  • We are hosting the annual Job Fair on Monday, August 27th! This will be a perfect opportunity for you to meet with various employers across the University, apply for jobs in our new and exciting Student Employment web-based service (FAJobLink), complete your Federal I-9 form (which allows you to work at UR!). Keep your eyes open on your e-mail throughout the month of August for more details on this fantastic event and instructions on how to navigate FAJobLink!
  • Last, but certainly not least, we are hosting a Financial Aid Lab at the IT Center in Rush Rhees on Wednesday, August 29th! Here you’ll be able to complete your loan requirements if you had not completed them earlier in August, complete your I-9s for job employment, and meet some of our financial aid staff!

It’ll continue to be a busy few weeks here in Wallis Hall, but we’re thrilled and excited to meet the soon-to-be faces of UR!

Remember, if you ever have a question feel free to contact your financial aid counselor!
Happy Summer Days!
