EDII Deadline Clarification

Oops! Our reading season and biggest-ever class were such wonderful distractions this past year that we accidentally included information about Rochester’s annual unofficial second-chance Early Decision option (EDII) with a January 1 deadline when we were creating our Common App instructions. Now the programmers at Common App are too swamped to change it on the site.

To explain: EDII each year has been designed for students who figure out that Rochester is their first choice during fall, but only after the EDI deadline of November 1 has passed. It’s not a great choice for students who already know Rochester is their first choice before November 1, because our response will come as late as February 1 rather than December 15.

We have aimed to keep the EDII applicant group small each year because it requires a short reading period! In the past we have advertised this option only to Regular Decision applicants who have already started their application process by December 1. Because it has been a small, closely counseled group, the deadlines and response dates have been informal.

I’m concerned that accidentally advertising this program to all applicants may increase the number who choose it. It’s our mistake, so we will honor and respond to all the EDII applications that arrive before the January 1 deadline this year. Please note that when you choose this option, your application must be complete, including the Early Decision agreement form, so we will have enough time to read and respond.
