Delta Upsilon’s Dance 4 Charity

The fraternity I am a part of, Delta Upsilon, hosts an annual campus dance competition called Dance 4 Charity (D4C). This past December was the fourth annual show, hosted inside Douglas Dining Hall. Yup, even our dining halls, just one part of our beautiful campus, can be transformed into a stage and show space.

So what is D4C? D4C is our campus’s only internal dance competition where campus dance groups get the chance to go head to head and showcase our campus diversity! This year, third place went to Indulgence, a campus hip hop team. Second place went to Bhangra, and first place went to Celtic, an Irish folk dance group. It was great seeing over ten campus dance groups come out to compete. The dining hall was packed and the audience absolutely loved the performances. The dances were judged by a delegate from the Wilson Commons Student Activities Office, a professor from the dance department, and a student delegate from the Panhellenic Council.

The best part of the event is that all the ticket sales get donated! This year’s profits were donated to the Global Service Initiative (GSI). The GSI aims its efforts at building schools and homes in Jamaica and in parts of Washington DC. GSI was extremely grateful for our contribution.

I forgot to mention that I was also the co-host of this year’s show, along with my friend David Weinberg! We both introduced each of the acts, and put in those funny (but not really that funny) MC jokes to get the crowd going.

All in all, it was a great event! I’d say the most successful so far! A huge thank you to the Rochester students who performed, helped organize, and attended the event!
