COLLEGE! Where are you?!?!

Now, it’s no secret among my friends or family about how excited I am for college next year. If it were up to me, I would travel through time to August and move into my dorm right now. But, as all high school seniors have to, I have to wait through the last months of school. Of course I have a lot of friends and teachers that I am going to miss, but I’m one of the few students who is TOTALLY ready to move on. Since I am going to college in the city I grew up in, I am not too worried about not seeing my friends EVER again or keeping in contact. When they come home, I’ll be here. So yeah. GET ME OUTTA HERE!

Ask me, “Why are you so eager for college?” and I can go on and on and on about everything. In fact, I can’t count how many times I have gone on and on about the University of Rochester. But enough with my “on and on”s; how about I actually give some reasons WHY I am so excited? Well, where to begin?!

How about music. Music is my life. I still remember when I was a kid, not even starting school yet, sitting down and watching Sesame Street, playing along to the songs with my toy piano. At first it wasn’t perfect, but very soon I picked up on pressing all the right notes and became a little prodigy. Okay, maybe not THAT far, but that definitely sparked my interest. From there, I picked up more instruments and eventually singing. Now, I sing for my existence.

So what does that have to do with the University of Rochester? Well, have you heard of the Eastman School of Music? It is one of the best musical conservatories in America, second only to Julliard. Well, it is part of the University of Rochester! So although I am not a student at Eastman, I can still take classes and private lessons there, all counting as credits toward my major! On top of that, the University has its own musical theatre minor, which I plan to be a part of. Dancing, acting, singing…all fun for a degree! What a life! Of course, all of this will be a TON of work. I mean, music is the most competitive field next to medicine, which I also plan on getting into. But more on that later.

Another thing about music which I absolutely love is composing and arranging music. I have done this for quite some time, and I feel with the college life, I will have more free time to work on my own music. Music makes me happy, and going to school for it has always been my dream. So now that it is official, I think it is clear how I am very excited to just go now.

The second half about school that I am excited for is my pre-med track. Being a doctor has always appealed to me since middle school. The University of Rochester is known most for its research and medical school. I love science and biology, and taking these courses will be a lot of work, but I will enjoy them, and that always makes it easier. So now that I get to be a part of this, I am very happy. My dreams have been fulfilled, all because of one letter of acceptance.

This is only the surface of why I am so excited about college. Don’t worry, I am sure you will all hear more from me these next few months. Every day, I get more anxious for graduation and the summer! I guarantee that I won’t be able to hold off on this subject for that long!
