It is really great to be all moved in back on the residential quad again. I am here already because I will be a Freshman Fellow for Gilbert 4 and all Res Life staff moves in earlier than freshmen for training and getting ready for Freshman move in. So although my days are pretty busy with that stuff, it will all be worth it when everyone moves in.
Last year I was in Tiernan 4, so I am used to the long walk up the stairs, but I prefer the top floor anyway. Gilbert is much bigger than Tiernan though, and sort of laid out confusingly, but after a while you get used to it and know it like the back of your hand. The halls are empty and each floor only has about 10 students living on it who are RA's, Freshman Fellows, D'Lions, or Eco Reps. When move in day comes it will be much better and alive. I also am excited for the dining halls to finally open Thursday so we can all eat good food again!
Being back I have seen a lot of changes for the better though. This summer has been all about construction for the University of Rochester. They got a brand new football field, baseball field, two new buildings (one being an air-conditioned dorm), improvements in walkways, and a refinished aquatic center. Everything looks great or is on its way. Also, College Town has started its construction down the street. This new idea from the University of Rochester includes a bunch of small businesses, mostly food, that will be easily accessible to students. Although it won't be done for quite some time, it is a great idea for the future.
Summer was good and all, but once you have a taste of college, you can never get enough. The first few weeks back are the best and most fun, so I am excited for all of my friends to move in and see everyone again. I am so ready for this year. It will be a good one!
