Are You in for a Scare? Spooky Situations in Financial Aid

Happy October! Fall is a beautiful time of year on campus—there’s always the changing autumn foliage, leaves crunching under your feet, and the Scare Fair at Rush Rhees to look forward to. Plus the Rochester area has tons of fun haunted houses and hayrides if you’re looking for a scare!

Before you indulge in these exciting fall activities, be sure that you’re not in for a scare with your financial aid first.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 11TH

Friday, October 11 is the day the spooky stuff goes down. What could I possibly be talking about? I know applying for financial aid can be scary, but you’d think the scary part would be over by now.

October 11 is the deadline for submitting any outstanding materials for your financial aid application. Whatever you have left to do, be it Entrance Counseling, a Promissory Note, IRS Data Retrieval, or a Sibling Enrollment form, we need it in our office by Friday, October 11.

Why, you ask? Because on Friday, October 11, if you have failed to provide the application information we are missing, we will begin a process to remove any undisbursed financial aid from your bill, resulting in a balance that you will be responsible to pay.

DON’T WORRY (TOO MUCH)

You still have time! Let me walk you through how you can check to see if your financial aid file is still missing any important documents. It’s easy with FAOnline! Login here:

Once you have logged in, you can review the Required Documents tab. This tab also contains information on each document status. You want to see all your documents either as ‘Received,’ meaning we have it in our office, or even better, as ‘Approved,’ meaning we have reviewed the document you submitted.

Once you’ve reached the Required Documents tab, be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom. Here, you can check the status of all your documents. If you see one that says ‘Not Received,’ you need to send that document in to our office ASAP! If you’re not sure where to find a particular document, just click on the name of the document, and it will link you to where you need to go.

Where to Send It

Now that’s an important question. Where do these documents go? You want to make sure you get them in on time! You have a number of options:

  1. Drop them off at the front desk in our office. We are located in G-13 on the ground floor of Wallis Hall.
  2. Scan and email them to your counselor. Find our contact info here.
  3. Fax them to our office at 585-756-7664.
  4. Mail them in: Financial Aid, Wallis Hall, Box 270261, Rochester, NY, 14627.
  5. If it is an electronic document, you may submit it online and it will be loaded into our system.

Don’t be a Zombie

I know Halloween is just around the corner, but don’t be a zombie. Pay attention to this October 11 deadline, get your documents in, and all will be well in the world of financial aid. Remember, you can always call us at 585-275-3226 if you have questions!
