Hi, everyone!
My name is Heather Alico and I am a senior, brain and cognitive science (BCS) major. My focus in BCS is on neurodevelopment and language. I hope to continue on to nursing school after graduation and become a psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner. In summer 2011, I completed my Spanish minor by studying abroad in Salamanca, Spain. I lived in a home stay, took classes, and tutored a local family in English. I also traveled to Portugal and Palma de Mallorca. Last semester, I finished another minor in psychology by taking a practicum in developmental disabilities.
On campus, I am a co-captain of the women's varsity soccer team and I play forward. Being a student athlete has been a rewarding, remarkable, and challenging experience. I am thankful to have such supportive teammates and coaches that care for each other like a family. We spend time together both on and off the field. Last summer, we traveled as a team to Greece to play the Greek national team and tour Olympic training facilities.
I currently hold the director of alumni relations position in my Panhellenic sorority and I am the secretary of the National Order of Omega Honor Society. Being involved in Greek life has given me a place to always be myself and strive to do good for our community. I work in admissions as a tour guide and an office assistant. I have volunteered at the Golisano Children's Hospital in pediatrics and hope to do more there in the future.
Clearly, I like to keep busy and the University of Rochester has given me a collaborative and diverse environment to do so. I can't wait to keep blogging about our upcoming soccer season, fall activities, and the excitement of senior year! Stay tuned!
