Bienvenidos a Buenos Aires!

Today was my fourth full day in Argentina, but it feels like I've been here so much longer! The city is beautiful, and it's warm enough that I can wear dresses and shorts! So far I've been pretty busy with orientation. We went on a bus tour of the city and attended a lot of presentations about safety, academics, and other logistical things. But we're having fun too—everyone that I've met on my program is so excited to be here and very friendly! My host family is great too. My host mom doesn't speak any English other than a few basic words and phrases, which makes things difficult at times, but luckily I can understand most of what she says, and I'm glad that I'm forced to speak Spanish! My host brother speaks English pretty well and likes to practice, so most of our conversations are a blend of the two languages.

I also live with another American student, which makes it a little easier to adjust! And I love having someone to explore with. Our neighborhood, Recoleta, is gorgeous. There are trees and parks everywhere, many museums within walking distance, and an outdoor market right around the corner! I could get used to this. 🙂  Most of the other students in my program live in our neighborhood or the next one over, which makes it easy to hang out. I can't wait until we get to know Buenos Aires a little better and can fully take advantage of all the cool things to see and do here!

Coming up, I have an oral exam to be placed in a Spanish grammar class, followed by a meeting with my academic advisor—eek! I'd almost forgotten about the studying part of study abroad. . . . It's so warm, fun, and relaxed here that it feels more like vacation! The nerdy part of me does have to admit I am a little excited for classes, though—in addition to three courses at the study abroad center, I'll be taking one at a local university, and I'm excited to see what it's like and hopefully make friends with some Argentine students!
