Winterfest Weekend 2014

Winterfest Weekend
January 31st – February 2nd, 2014

Hot chocolate, giveaways, and more hot chocolate!
One of my favorite traditions at the University of Rochester is a day we all call Winterfest Weekend. It is a fun weekend-long festival to welcome back students to the spring semester, and to the beautiful snow-covered campus. This weekend is certainly one of my favorite festivals because it gives students a chance to have fun and get a break from coursework, all on our beautiful campus. This year I started off my Winterfest fun with some free hot chocolate, and by “some” I mean five cups. It was so good, and I just couldn’t help myself. After that, I went and joined a massive line of students waiting for that year’s giveaway. Every year, the Students’ Association Government orders and hands out a free giveaway, and this year it was a Rochester scarf. Previous giveaways have included gloves, blankets, and beanies! I was excited to add the scarf to my collection.

S’mores, puppies, and coffee!
After that, I went to make some s’mores (for the first time!) over a fire pit. It was a ton of fun, especially being from Southern California, because I don’t really ever get the chance to make s’mores over a live fire pit. Then, I went to play with some huskies! The University tries to bring dogs in many different times during the year to help students just have fun with animals and relax. It’s a really good chance for students who have pets at home to play with the dogsstudents really do miss the pets they have to leave at home when they come to college. After that, I finished my weekend off by getting some free coffee from a Java’s Coffee truck. Java’s is a very famous coffee shop located in the heart of downtown Rochester. It is a popular study place for students, and it was fantastic having their drinks right here on campus! I hope to write another post in the coming months about our festival to wrap the year up: Dandelion Day!
