Hey everybody! I’m Princess Sarah Ahmed. 😀 My friends call me Sarah AK (pronounce the A and the K separately), or you can call me princess, I can settle for that. :p I am from Iraq, specifically Baghdad, the capital. I left Iraq recently, and I miss it terribly. I am a weird person, but in a good sense, because I have my own ideas and my own ideals and I live by them. I like to describe it as a bubble; inside this bubble, I rule. I don’t believe in violence and I like people to live peacefully. Most of the time I don’t like the ways that nowadays societies are talking and living by, and I would love to change that one day. So I encourage you to create your own unique bubble and live inside it. Don’t get me wrong—a bubble will not separate you from anything around; it will only protect your originality and your uniqueness from being disturbed. I believe that we should reserve all different personalities and celebrate them.
I am a freshman at University of Rochester. I am undecided, but I am pre-dental and I love biology, so I think that will be it—but still, you are never sure what might happen in the few next years. I love medicine and anything related to it. I am determined on getting into dental school. I have been told that it is impossible and I shouldn’t put a lot of hope on that, but I say no! I will! And I will work on it. Here at the U of R, it’s a good thing to be undecided because there are many options and many tracks that might interest a person in the long term. That’s attributed to its flexible curriculum. But I still love science and I think I will never change. I might add to it and increase my interest to other things, but I will never change radically.
About my fun side, I DO NOT have one! I am just kidding; I am a lot of fun! I love swimming but I don’t know how to swim. I love to play piano and sing but I don’t know how to do them also. Seriously now, I love sports; again, I don’t play any, but I really like it and I used to play ping-pong back home and I AM GOOD (challenge me and YOU WILL GO DOWN). Regarding the piano, I am taking a course now at Eastman School of Music; one will never know, I might be able to play perfectly at the end of the semester (I don’t think so! But let’s wait and see ;)). I love photography and I take photos of anything that I think would make a beautiful photo. Sometimes I get interested in a fly and I keep on chasing it like crazy to catch it in a photo—I know, obsessed. I shall upload some, so you can anticipate my photos along with my writing, as I love adding colors and dimensions to what I write. I took a million photos of the beautiful University campus and of everything around this area. I will try to share some with you all.
I hope that you can know me and relate to me and to the University of Rochester through what I will write here in this blog. Once, I read a book by Ray Bradbury, and the following quote struck me because I never thought it might happen, and now not only I am seeing it but I am acting upon it. It says, “They blended religion and art and science because at base, science is no more than an investigation of a miracle we can never explain, and art is an interpretation of that miracle. They never let science crush the aesthetic and the beautiful. It’s all simply a matter of degree.” I think this is what one will see in this University—and so far, I am loving it.
