Winter Break Reflections: The End of a Great Semester

Once again a semester has come and gone. Its passing has brought another series of new adventures and promises of great times to come. Its culmination marks the end of some classes, GPAs to be proud of, and (if you’re like me) resolutions to put renewed effort into academics next semester. With this, I am not as excited for this semester’s end as I am for next semester’s beginning. To put it dramatically—like the phoenix rising from the ashes, I'll begin anew with the livelihood of those embarking on the next stage of a wonderful journey.

My favorite part about that journey each semester is the memories made. I would love to talk about my favorite memory of the semester here, but I'm afraid I cannot do so—it is impossible for me to pin down just one favorite memory. There are too many. I've thought about it for a good ten minutes now and whenever I conclude one is the best, I remember another and the process repeats.

It's funny too, because I reminisce thinking that freshman year would be the best two semesters—yet each has been so unique in its own way I'm hard pressed to say any one semester was the best. Just like each memory, I look back to each semester highlighting the experiences and there is no clear victor. They all win.

And now I get to look forward to the memories to be made next semester. I’m taking two philosophy classes—a subject in which I have always wanted to take more classes. I was recently elected to president of my fraternity and vice-president of the Interfraternity Council, which will entail a lot of hard work and hopefully innumerable positive memories. And even farther down the line, I get to look forward to the possibility of becoming a resident advisor, as I was accepted into the selection class this semester.

With so many great things to look forward to, I can’t help but wish I was already back at Rochester!
