Hillside Community Shield: U of R vs. RIT

The first annual Hillside Community Shield soccer game between the #14 University of Rochester and Rochester Institute of Technology is scheduled to take place Tuesday, September 11. The game will take place at Sahlen’s Stadium in downtown Rochester. Though the heated UR v. RIT rivalry has been going on for many years, this is the first year that the two are turning the match into something bigger. This year there are tickets being sold to the match (7$ for adults 5$ for children 12 and under) with the proceeds going to the Hillside Family of Agencies. This group supports family and the local Rochester community through many community based initiatives. Also, there will be a 9/11 remembrance service between the earlier game (Aquinas vs. McQuaid) and the UR vs. RIT game.

RIT is coming off three consecutive big wins, and looking to upset #14 Rochester. Rochester looks to continue their current form after Seth Davis Brown smacked in a header for a 1-0 win over Clarkson over the weekend. With two teams both at the top of their form, something has got to give. This is undoubtedly a battle between two of the best universities in New York, as well as all colleges in the Northeast. This regionally battle will definitely factor in when tournament time comes around, so that just adds into the drama and hype surrounding this local derby.

This is a great event to try and really build a sense of enthusiasm for the game of soccer locally in Rochester, as well as raise money for a great cause. There will be lots of great soccer, live entertainment, and guaranteed fun.
