Hello!
My name is Grant Dever and I’m a sophomore at the University of Rochester. I’m from Honeoye Falls, NY, which is a small rural-suburb approximately 25 minutes from the University. The summer before my junior year of high school, I stayed on campus for a week participating in the Rochester Scholars program and absolutely fell in love with the University of Rochester. I applied Early Decision and was accepted on December 19th, 2011, which was one of the most exciting days of my life. Although I am a sophomore, I am still technically undecided in my major; however, I plan on declaring a major in financial economics.
I began my freshman year months before I even arrived on campus. As you know, I was incredibly excited to be attending the University of Rochester; this excitement manifested itself in me being an extremely active member on the Class of 2016 Facebook page. As I eagerly engaged in discussions with my future peers and answered their questions about the local area, I began to make friends who would have greater impacts on my life than I can or could have ever known.
I had participated in student government in high school and decided to continue my passion for student government by running for class council. I was elected onto class council and was selected to be the president of our council. Throughout the year, my team and I programmed fun, spirited programming, and received a lot of positive feedback from our peers. Our most notable programming was most definitely our Spirit Week. After a year of participating in class council, I was certain that I wanted to continue to be a part of such an awesome organization and ran for re-election. I am now beginning my second year as the President of the 2016 Class Council and am absolutely loving it.
My campus involvement, however, does not end there. I am currently a Residential Advisor on Gates 3 hall in Sue B (shoutout to my awesome residents!), a Super EcoRep for the EcoRep program, and a brother in Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
While I may be incredibly busy with all of these commitments, I still manage to find time for my other passions. My other passions include reading, writing, networking, travel, and fitness. If you really want to get my attention, all you need to do is talk about A Game of Thrones. I read all five of the books this past summer!
This year looks incredibly promising and I’m excited to enjoy each present moment. I hope that y’all enjoy reading my blog posts. Feel free to email me at gdever@u.rochester.edu with any questions or feedback; I love to hear from people who have read my blogs!
