I managed to catch a video of the first real snowfall at UR for you all:
Protip: When you don’t know what you want next Christmas, for your birthday, etc., ask for WARM CLOTHES.
I’ll probably shoot more vlog-style videos later. It was impromptu but I figured that you would appreciate seeing the snow. That was after Thanksgiving, so people were buckling down for finals, but if we had gotten more snow (it stopped, sadly), I’m sure there would have been a lot of sledding, snow ball fights, snow angels, and snowmen!
As I’ve mentioned, I live in Rochester, so I’m pretty up to date on the current weather here. We recently got over a foot of snow, and it had been consistently below freezing, which means we had quite a bit of snow. I had hoped that if any melted, it would be just enough to make the snow pack real well, but sadly, most of it has melted. But soon, we should get some fresh snow to welcome everyone back to campus. I’m excited for all of the snow shenanigans that are in my future, and I’m definitely making sure I bring my snow pants with me to school this semester. My dad got me some boots for Christmas so I won’t end up walking around in frozen Converses.
University of Rochester got pretty festive this holiday season even though there wasn’t much snow until everyone left.
I missed the first couple of days of Hanukkah because I went home to finish all my final projects, essays, etc. so I could spend the weeks before finals studying. However, my friends told me that you could smell Latkes from your dorm because everyone was making them in the kitchens on every floor in Sue B. I’m really sad that I missed out on delicious Latkes. I know that Hillel, Chabad, and the other Jewish groups on campus held services, events, etc.
However, I did get to participate in some holiday lounge decorating. My friends on Hoeing 2 are really creative (special shout-outs to Gina DeMeo: don’t leave us to go to art school)!
My own hall, Hollister 2 (<3), also had an end-of-semester holiday party. At our party, we had a potluck where everyone made/purchased food. We also exchanged gifts as part of a “Secret Santa” event, which was fun because we all tried to guess who got us our gifts. Some of the gifts were pretty hilarious because we’d gotten to know each other pretty well throughout the semester.
I’ll record our snow adventures when they happen!
